Lolo Pass Hostel
is inspired by the beautiful Oregon and Montana passes. Although these serene environments were the inspiration for the name, it is the feeling and emotion you experience when visiting these places that we were trying to convey.
Excitement, eclecticism, the unknown. Perhaps meeting someone new in nature. These are all attractors for this urban hostel environment as well. This project was conceived on and executed within a very tight budget — much less than the average hotel space in architecture/interior architecture cost per sf, and significantly less than typical FFE packages.
Layers and texture were the best way we thought to convey these emotions.
Our team achieved this through intentionally mis-matched furniture pieces, layered seating, planter/table integration, and then some. Bright colors were used in unexpected places; behind the bar, in the elevator, in the restrooms, and even on the floor at reception.
The rooms were completed economically, yet with style and ease as the priority. Color block details can be seen not only in the public spaces, but the intimate sleeping rooms as well. Each level has a different color story and custom corridor mural with abstract patterns reminiscent of nature.
The community room on the roof top of the building, and the roof top itself, has incredible views of the city of Portland-we provided custom plant tables and seating for the patrons to submerge themselves in the surrounding vista while remaining comfortable after a long day of exploring the city.
